Description

Joss Whedon, the creative genius behind the feature film "Marvel's The Avengers," one of the highest grossing films of all time, and the iconic television series "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," has co-created Marvel's first television series "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," a dynamic, action-packed one-hour drama that brings back Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) to lead a team of highly skilled agents to investigate extra-normal and super human people and events worldwide. The series begins where the "Marvel's The Avengers" left off. It's just after the battle of New York, and now that the existence of super heroes and aliens has become public knowledge, the world is trying to come to grips with this new reality. Agent Phil Coulson is back in action and now has his eye on a mysterious group called The Rising Tide. In order to track this unseen, unknown enemy, he has assembled a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division). The S.H.I.E.L.D. team has a mission: To investigate the new, the strange and the unknown around the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson's team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage; Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), expert pilot and martial artist; Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), brilliant engineer; and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Well done. Likeable characters, good plots. Sort of an X-Files meets Mission Impossible type thing. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
  • Ads, ads, ads. Oh yeah, and some fun TV.

If I wanted ads with my Agents of SHIELD, I'd watch it on cable. Tell me, why should I go to iTunes and pay full price to watch a TV show just to have my eyes and ears insulted with ads after the credit roll that will be outdated literally weeks after each episode airs? Seriously, what's wrong with you ABC?! Maybe I should just look… um… elsewhere next time I want to watch something you make.

I'll admit, this show had a very rocky start, but by the last half of the first season it was amazing! I love Marvel movies and think it's so cool that they have tv shows now! Trust me, just get past the first episodes and you will LOVE the show! Season 2 is especially amazing! If you watch this, you'll be glad you did!

Slow at first, but even the beginning of the season has importance that is later revealed in the season and later on in the show. Great actors, very well written plots and characters, and just overall a great show.

Agents Of SHIELD started off…with a pretty awful Pilot for me. It had a lot of issues that…idk, maybe more time, less people working on it, or Joss Whedon not stressed out over Age Of Ultron would’ve helped. I’ll never know what could be done. But I hung on because I’m a big fan of the MCU and I wanted to see how this show would develop. That was one of the smartest choices I’ve made. A lot of gushing & hype are centered around ep. 17, Turn Turn Turn, and rightly so. It engages with the plot of The Winter Soldier and gives us more fallout over the Fall of SHIELD. It really steps up the stakes and writing/acting from everyone with this bombshell. But in looking back and rewatching the whole show in one large go, I’ve found that one of the best things is how early eps set up things we didn’t realize it was setting up at the time. And not just for this season, but also stuff that’s happening in Season Three. There is an arc that isn’t apparent watching these early eps one at a time per week, but binge watching does let us see the thread that lead to some great reveals like in ep.10, The Bridge. Why do I mention this? Because a lot of people I talk to online say the best or only good parts of AOS is the last few eps. And I disagree, the early ones have some wonderful moments and do impact how the bombshells at the end of the season come across. Something that just watching The Pilot and/or The Winter Soldier and then ep.17 won’t give you. Which all in all makes this a great show and takes us into a fantastic and wonderful Season Two!
  • Good Addition To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

So, I feel like the reviews here on this series have been very mixed between "very good" and "very weak". I have been on both sides of this fence because when I first started this series, I thought it was extremely weak and wouldn't hold up as a series. But what I didn't realize at the time, because I'd never watched a Joss Whedon series before this, is that Whedon is very much about slow-playing and world building. The first 9 or so episodes of the series are a tad on the boring side, so unless you find something you love in the characters right off the bat, it is a hard series to stick with. However, once the series introduced the further back stories of the main cast and started to develop their season long arc, the series takes off. Existing in the same universe as the Marvel movies is a big strength for this series as it retains the same look and feel of the movies. Where the films showcase the big flashy characters with big flashy events, Agents of SHIELD focuses more on world building and fleshing out the other things that make up this universe. It is an extremely fun season that in the last 6 episodes catapults the series to untold and unforeseeable heights. It is definitely worth the time and price to check this series out if you're a Marvel movie fan. You won't regret it.
